Reportedly, a girl along her lover in Peshawar killed her fiancé and both have been imprisoned now.
Love is blind. You might have heard this notion many times and may be in a context that sounds pleasing. However, a blind love does not always result in something pleasing. Sometimes, it reflects itself in more grotesque ways.
The other day, a girl in Peshawar was sentenced for 14 years jail for conspiring with her other lover to kill her fiancé.
Reportedly, the court life imprisonment to the other lover of the girl for killing girl’s fiancé.
As per reports, Peshawar’s additional district and session court judge Shahzad Akhwanzada announced the verdict in which Reema was also fined Rs300,000. Also, Siyab, her accomplice, was fined Rs500,000 along with the life imprisonment.
According to media reports, the story of the murder goes like that. Imtiaz, who had returned from Dubai, had engagment to his paternal cousin Reema last year.
His fiance, however, was in love with Siyab, another cousin. Siyab claimed that Reema would instigate and taunt him to get rid of Imtiaz so they could tie the knot.
‘Pressurised’ by her, Siyab gunned down Imtiaz in Peshawar. Police were able to trace the suspects through their mobile phones.
Siyab confessed to the crime before a judicial magistrate and told the court that he was instigated by Reema.
Two takeaways from the love story
There are two takeaways from the story. First, it’s deplorable that in majority of marriages consent of the partners is not given priority. Marriages happen as per the family norms and most of the elders of a family have major say in it. This is not fair. Children’s consent should be given priority when parents take a decision with respect to their marriage.
The second takeaway is that the story talks a lot about the growing level of intolerance in our society. Reports of husband killing wife and vice versa surface on daily basis because of trivial reasons. Of course, there is no gainsaying the fact that love can be blind but it should not be so blind that it prompts you to take someone’s life. True love makes you humble and humanity loving. It does not make you self centered.
